Atrium Staffing hosted the inaugural sessions of Atrium University on May 15 and May 17, 2012 at their Union Square office in New York, NY during the second annual Internet Week New York. Atrium University is a FREE crash course open to the public aimed at teaching useful tips to job seekers to help them become more competitive in the job market.
Atrium Staffing focuses on the “quality, treatment and concern for applicants and employees,” which is where the concept of Atrium University derived from. Atrium Staffing hosted this event to provide their associates the opportunity on how to make themselves more competitive compared to other applicants. While this was only the first annual Atrium University, Atrium Staffing hopes to host multiple sessions for their associates throughout the year.
With the current state of unemployment, Atrium University, proved to be very helpful to all those who attended. Atrium University provided many unemployed workers the ability to learn how improve their skills and make themselves more marketable in the current job market, which has changed over time due to the incorporation of social media. The curriculum of this year’s Atrium University sessions included job-seeking essentials with a modern twist, including a lesson on the social media realm. The curriculum of this year’s Atrium University consisted of four parts:
- Resume Bootcamp
- Social Media Must-Haves
- Interview Techniques
- Sell Yourself in 30 seconds!
What really differentiates Atrium Staffing and Atrium University is the consultants' vast knowledge and usage of social media. They are actively recruiting and announcing open positions across LinkedIn and even Twitter! With the increased usage of social media and networks to target applicants and the recent controversy concerning the privacy of profiles on social networking websites, particularly Facebook, job applicants need to be prepared. Atrium University, unlike other similar events, really focused on making sure that at any age, the students learned how to take advantage of these websites, while still maintaining their privacy.
The event concluded with a reception, where all those who attended Atrium University were given the opportunity to speak to counselors about job advice or any questions they had.
