Calling All New Grads!

We’ve all read the articles. We get it. Unemployment rates are excruciatingly high, especially for recent grads. Recent college graduates have entered one of the worst job markets in decades. According to CBS News, youth unemployment has reached an all time high at 14.5 percent. So where does that leave all of these newly educated, eager youth…living at home with their parents, applying to countless jobs, just waiting for a positive response?

As reality is settling in that September is right around the corner and recent grads are not returning back to school, many of you are having a great deal of trouble believing that the light is still flickering at the end of the tunnel.

Instead of losing hope, recent grads should consider the benefits of working with a staffing firm. Working on temp assignments gives people, specifically recent grads, the opportunity to utilize and develop their skills while gaining an understanding and familiarity with different industries. What else can recent grads gain through temp work?

  1. Experience- Gain exposure to a variety of industries and master professional skills. You are able to become acquainted  with different businesses, from large corporate agencies to mid-sized nonprofits to small start up operations – every trade needs a temp every once in a while
  2. Money- Make fast cash. Many temp assignments are financially lucrative.
  3. Networking- Expand your professional circle. Temping through a staffing firm gives you the opportunity to get your foot in the door. Once you are there working as a temp, it is up to you to make an memorable impression, which often leads to extended assignments of full-time hires.

Temping gives recent grads the opportunity to see what kind of work place, environment, position, and industry would be the best fit for them. It’s a sneak peak of the real deal, like watching the trailer before paying for the movie tickets or sampling the new flavor at Pinkberry before purchasing the large. C’mon, who doesn’t like a sample?
