Our client is a consumer products company that specializes in cosmetics/personal care products. They operate in a very fast-paced environment. Currently, they are looking to add a Color Chemist to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$70k – $80k

Position Overview:

The Color Chemist will lead technical efforts in formulating, innovating, and scaling powder-based and/or color cosmetic products, with occasional support for emulsion and anhydrous developments. This role requires collaboration across teams in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities of the Color Chemist:

  • Develop and improve powder and/or color cosmetic formulations, including new products and reformulations.
  • Assist with emulsion and anhydrous product development as needed.
  • Evaluate and incorporate new raw materials and technologies to enhance product performance within cost and regulatory limits.
  • Work closely with clients to set formulation goals, resolve issues, and deliver solutions.
  • Provide technical support through clear communication and documentation.
  • Research emerging trends and materials relevant to powders and other formulations.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Packaging, and Research teams.
  • Monitor product stability and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Document formulations and processes accurately, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Support global standardization initiatives in formulation and testing.

Required Experience/Skills for the Color Chemist:

  • At least 6 months of experience in cosmetics formulations is essential.
  • Practical formulation experience in a fast-paced lab or R&D setting.
  • Basic knowledge of emulsion/anhydrous principles.
  • Familiarity with raw materials, regulatory guidelines, and cosmetic industry standards.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and manage multiple projects.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, SAP, DEVEX, or similar software.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and a collaborative team player.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Colors Chemist:

  • Prior experience in a fast-paced work environment is a plus.
  • Passion for working in color cosmetics.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or another related scientific discipline is required.
