Our client is a global chemical company. The company is looking for a Chemical Technician who can work independently as well as collaboratively and can communicate well across all levels of the department.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$18-$22/hr (depending on experience)

Position Overview:

The Chemical Technician will work both as a small scale Reactor Operator as well as a General Lab Technician in a high throughput testing lab environment. The right candidate for the Chemical Technician role should possess basic laboratory skills and also the ability to troubleshoot, maintain and potentially repair instruments. The company uses multiple instruments including LECO, HORIBA, GAS GCs and multiple small scale test unit that are used by petroleum refiners, catalyst producers, research centers and institutes for the purpose of FCC catalyst evaluation. The Chemical Technician should also have a strong desire to work within a research laboratory environment and understand the principles and importance of data quality and safe operation


  • Provide routine wet analysis of customer’s samples
  • Assist in logging in projects and setting up worksheets
  • Type reports on final test results assembled from various chemists
  • Assist in performing critical functions in the lab such as proper disposal of samples, maintaining inventory, reordering of supplies and maintaining 5S
  • Assist other members of the lab doing special analysis as needed
  • Use correct safety techniques when handling chemicals and working in the lab
  • Provide a high degree of accuracy both in documentation and sample preparation
  • Interpret results and make logical conclusions based on available data
  • Demonstrate the ability to troubleshot and diagnose testing equipment
  • Comply with Standard Operation Procedures
  • Provide typical analysis which includes the following among others: pH, TDS, conductivity, concentration by refractometer or acid/base titration (manual and auto-titrator), anionic/nonionic titration, microbial load by dip slide, tramp oil and non-emulsified oil, soil load, oil extraction and ICP, IC, FTIR, XRD instrument use
  • Interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Work with a variety of software platforms for the purpose of instrument control and reporting of results


  • Passion and experience working in the chemical industry is highly preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical ability
  • A self-starter who can be effective with minimal supervision
  • Writing skills consistent with the ability to prepare concise, timely and accurate reports
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in commercial laboratory testing

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science is required
