$70,000 to $80,000

Position Overview:

The Cost Accountant is responsible for the analysis of process constraints, target costing project, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities.  This Cost Accountant must also construct and monitor cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.

Responsibilities of the Cost Accountant:

  • Involved in the consolidated reporting and analysis of inventory costs and transactions (raw materials, WIP, finished goods, and packaging), including monthly reporting of cost of sold goods and reviewing plants’ inventory transactions.
  • Reviewing and analyzing transactions affecting inventory, outside/interplant freight, reserves, and other inventory activities
  • Responsible for inventory reconciliation and development of cost standards
  • Actively involved with semi and annual year-end physical inventory counts and work with external and bank auditors per requests for COGS and inventory testing
  • Use of the current cost accounting system, spreadsheet software and suggest improvements to reporting and control procedures using an organized process of planning, parallel testing and reconciling to the current system and general ledger
  • Review/analyze inventory transactions for daily and month-end activities
  • Involved with month-end closing for general ledger expense and balance sheet account analysis, and special projects as needed
  • Analyze cost estimates of new and proposed product costs and provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products
  • Utilize MS Excel for month-end inventory reporting of COGS and other transactions (reserves, change in inventory, etc.)
  • Effectively analyze general ledger accounts for month-over-month variances

Qualifications for the Cost Accountant:

  • 5 years of experience in Cost Accounting and Manufacturing
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge in ERP and Financial Reporting systems

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required
