Our client, a leading manufacturing company based in New Jersey, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cost Accounting Manager.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$130k – $140k

Position Overview:

This role will be responsible for overseeing all plant accounting functions, managing standard cost rolls, preparing manufacturing cost estimates, and analyzing the cost of sales variances. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment and a strong understanding of financial analysis and cost control.

Responsibilities of the Cost Accounting Manager:

  • Oversee all plant accounting activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and improve the accuracy of inventory valuations and cost of goods sold.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes for the plant.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports for plant operations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard cost systems for manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct regular reviews and updates of standard costs to reflect changes in production processes and raw material prices.
  • Coordinate with production, procurement, and engineering teams to ensure accurate and up-to-date cost standards.
  • Prepare detailed manufacturing cost estimates for new and existing products.
  • Analyze production costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and recommend strategies to improve profitability.
  • Collaborate with product development teams to provide cost analysis and support for new product introductions.
  • Perform variance analysis on cost of sales, identifying key drivers and trends.
  • Investigate and explain significant variances between actual and standard costs.
  • Prepare and present variance analysis reports to management, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Conduct regular financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to cost accounting and plant operations.
  • Develop and implement financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of cost accountants, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovative solutions to cost management challenges.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Qualifications for the Cost Accounting Manager:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of standard cost systems, variance analysis, and cost estimation techniques.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
