Our client a apparel manufacturer of private label children’s apparel located in New York City. We are seeking a knowledgeable Fabric R&D Associate to join our fast-paced team. Childrenswear and compliance knowledge recommended for this role.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$70,000 – $90,000

Position Overview:

The Fabric R&D Associate IS A NEW POSITION WE ARE ADDING TO THE TEAM. This is a full-time position that works with knit and woven textile mills to ensure that fabric and color is developed according to performance standards, quality specifications and color requirements. The Fabric R&D Associate will ensure the mill properly process all fabrics to deliver in a timely manner. This position WILL TRAVEL OVERSEAS 3-4 TIMES A YEAR.

Responsibilities of the Fabric R&D Associate:

  • Organize all development and testing with mills throughout the production process to ensure standards are met
  • Work with the company’s test labs and 3rd party labs reviewing results and providing feedback to the proper parties
  • Research new and existing materials to understand their properties and develop ways to improve fabric and printing processes
  • Regularly update the mills on the company’s delivery requirements ensuring the mill’s capacities/capabilities meet our needs
  • Review each mill’s manufacturing processes and communicate with their technicians to identify ways to make operations more efficient
  • Meet regularly with the company’s quality manager/merchandisers and the mill’s quality teams to identify and resolve quality trends before they become serious issues

Qualifications for the Fabric R&D Associate:

  • Sound knowledge of knit and woven fabrics and all processes: yarn spinning, knitting, weaving, dyeing, printing, and finishing
  • Knowledge/experience in working with fabric mills for risk assessment on fabric issues and providing technical advice
  • Creative thinker to aide in the development and improvement of fabrics and their processes
  • Fluent is mandarin and English
  • Willing to travel internationally where and when permissible
  • Well organized and able to work under pressure in a fast past environment

Education Requirements:

  • Degree in a textile related discipline such as textile engineering is required
