Our client is a fast-growing diagnostic solutions company specializing in cutting-edge and new methods geared towards precision medicine that would be an exciting and challenging role for a Licensed Lead Medical Lab Technician.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$35 – $40/hr Dependent on experience

Position Overview:

The Licensed Lead Medical Lab Technician performs pre-analytical processes and assists with the analytical procedures for patient testing. The Licensed Lead Medical Lab Technician performs tests and interprets results only under direct supervision of a qualified Medical Technologist. Scheduled Tuesday – Saturday 3rd shift: 9:30pm – 6am.

Responsibilities of the Licensed Lead Medical Lab Technician:

  • Assists with processing for all test methods approved by CAP and CLIA under supervision of a qualified Medical Lab Technician (MLT)
  • Biological specimen preparation, labeling, preservation or fixation, and processing according to established SOPs
  • Performing moderate to high complexity tests according to established protocols
  • Preparation and storage of specimens, reagents and culture media
  • Assisting in the performance of quality control procedures
  • Works closely with Lab Technologists and reports all problems to a Lead, General Supervisor and/or Lab Director
  • Assists with routine instrument maintenance and daily preventative maintenance activities
  • Monitors reagent and supply inventory
  • Assists with sterilization of glassware, maintaining a neat and clean work bench
  • Disposes of biohazardous waste according to standard procedures
  • Organizes patient specimen and assay worksheets/printouts for testing and technologist review
  • Assists with processing for all test methods approved by CAP, NY and CLIA under supervision of a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist
  • Uses established forms to document test performance, quality activities, and other routine procedures, ensuring completeness and accuracy of laboratory documents
  • Follows all safety procedures, policies, precautions, and adheres to the laboratory’s Quality Management System
  • Performs all duties according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Prepares laboratory reagents and assay materials according to SOPs
  • Works closely with Lab Technologists and reports all problems to a Lead, General Supervisor and/or Lab Director
  • Assists with routine instrument maintenance and daily preventative maintenance activities
  • Monitors reagent and supply inventory
  • Assists with sterilization of glassware, maintaining a neat and clean work bench

Qualifications for the Licensed Lead Medical Lab Technician:

  • Must be possess an active state license in the assigned test specialty
  • At least 2 years of work experience in a CAP/CLIA laboratory
  • Experience in training MLTs
  • Experience in troubleshooting specimens
  • Experience with molecular/ microbiology laboratory
  • Experience in handling human specimens
  • Strong hands-on experience in pipetting, PCR, aseptic technique, being able to prevent specimen contamination
  • Experience of at least 2 years working in a Molecular Biology / Microbiology laboratory
  • Strong data entry skills
  • Proficient in MS office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Must be open to work an extended schedule as needed

  • Good attention to details and can handle working in a fast paced environment accurately

Education Requirements:

  • Requires BS or BA in a scientific field
  • 0 to 2 years related experience, preferably in a CAP/CLIA accredited laboratory
