Position Overview:

The Operations Supervisor conducts the day-to-day equipment and production activities for food processing operations to meet company and regulatory guidance. The process, form beginning to end, requires the Operations Supervisor to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction, and foster a culture that drives consistent compliance with all established regulations for food and process safety. The Operations Supervisor will establish key performance indicators (KPIs) that generate tangible and actionable process improvements.  Through department cross-functional communication and practice, the Operations Supervisor will ensure food safety and quality are universally understood and exercised through quality leadership.

Responsibilities of the Operations Supervisor:

  • Plan and coordinate liquid product operations for a specific product (e.g. ketchup, sauce, etc.) to ensure that department and objectives for productivity and quality are met or exceeded
  • Supervise assigned staff, including recruiting and selecting employees, assigning work, providing training and development, evaluating performance, and building a motivated, effective team to ensure that organizational goals for diversity, career development, productivity, performance management, and employee involvement are met
  • Coordinate communication with staff, maintenance, and other departments to ensure effective operations and to meet the production requirements of internal and external customers
  • Monitor and evaluate statistical data, operation procedures, and other information to maximize operational efficiencies and to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory agency policies and regulations
  • Assist with productivity/quality standards including accuracy, timeliness, thoroughness, and production and process efficiency and quality
  • Assist with standard costs of production, budget, cost containment, and employee development
  • Take charge of teamwork within the department and across departments
  • Customer satisfaction
  • Vendor relations
  • Take charge of safety standards and procedures including employees, the facility, and equipment

Qualifications of the Operations Supervisor:

  • 4 – 6 years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment with increasing supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of food safety concepts and techniques
  • Management concepts and techniques experience
  • Experience with project management concepts and techniques
  • Budgetary concepts and procedures abilities
  • Experience with maintenance/mechanical concepts and procedures
  • PC word processing/spreadsheet software experience
  • Experience supervising and motivating employees in a team-based environment
  • Experience with identifying problems or irregularities for early resolution
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with employees verbally and in writing
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Ability to work effectively in a general business environment, with a focus on high levels of quality and customer service

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Accounting, or Business Administration from an accredited vocational, technical, or junior college institution
