Salary/ Hourly Rate:

$60k – $70k

Position Overview:

The Payroll Coordinator will be part of a dedicated and innovative Human Resources team that actively supports the mission by fostering a safe and dignified workplace culture where employees from every background are represented, and where employees can thrive and grow personally and professionally. They are looking for a knowledgeable Payroll Coordinator for their organization of over 200 employees. The position requires expertise in multi- state payroll and experience with unions. This position is part of a team of 6 and is based in New York city. The ideal candidate manages one direct report and the Payroll and Benefits Administrator.

Responsibilities of the Payroll Coordinator:

  • Own and oversee the processing of full-cycle exempt, non-exempt multi-state payroll in addition to processing W-2s and 1099 while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and company policy
  • Stay informed about legislative/statutory changes to compensation-related withholdings and benefits while working with HR, Paylocity, and third-party administrators to ensure accurate change management to payroll systems and effective communication to colleagues
  • Lead improvement initiatives and efficiencies and implement best practices to ensure payroll processing accuracy and compliance for multi-state payroll (appropriate deductions for benefits, garnishments, taxes, and new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates)
  • Coordinate with the Accounting department on bank reconciliation, reporting, pay schedule, and tax implications
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, hour laws and best practices
  • Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors
  • Develop and generate ad-hoc reporting as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications of the Payroll Coordinator:

  • 3 – 5 years of progressive experience with payroll, compensation programs, and benefits administration including 403(b) administration
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities/deadlines
  • Must be an outstanding communicator who is very comfortable communicating with employees
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable training staff virtually or in-person and providing them with training resources in a variety of formats
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to establish oneself as a trusted advisor within the organization
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems
  • Paylocity experience is highly preferred
  • Ability to multitask and work under deadlines

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
