Our client is a large corporate company with a small, local feel on site. This site works on a natural personal care line including lotions, shampoos, body wash and specialty oils. The company is carefully following social distancing rules and provides masks and sanitizer for employees. This is a highly successful company that prides itself on creating sensible, quality products for the consumer. They are currently hiring a contract Product Development Chemist for a small team.

Position Description:

The Product Development Chemist will work in a small lab with other engineers to formulate and bring to market personal care products for the company’s natural line. The Product Development Chemist will have plenty of space for social distancing and will work independently on creative, thoughtful formulas. The Product Development Chemist will be responsible for overcoming technical hurdles in the development process and taking an innovative, fresh eye to the consumer product line.


  • Formulate, from scratch, new formulas and oversee the steps involved in bringing the product to market include technical challenges that may come up in the development process
  • Update existing formulations to be most cost efficient, effective or include smarter ingredients
  • Work with engineers to appropriately scale up formulas
  • Creative problem solving and collaborations to identify and utilize unique raw materials
  • Make batch trials, run stability tests, color matching, chemical tests and other tests related to the qualities of the formula in a GMP setting
  • Evaluate raw materials for use in emulsions
  • Maintain a highly detailed lab notebook
  • Use knowledge of market trends and insights in development and innovation
  • Interface with multiple teams and put together data presentations


  • 4 or more years as a Chemist in the formulation of emulsions for personal care products is required
  • Experience having a part in the product development process working with marketing and or engineering
  • Experience testing batches and running stability in a GMP and FDA regulated facility
  • Positive personality and a strong work ethic to succeed in a self motivated role
  • Ability to work on site 40 hours per week
  • Work authorization; ability to work in the U.S. for any employer

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the sciences is required (preferred: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Cosmetic Chemistry)
  • Master’s candidates are a plus
