Our client are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our leading real estate development company located in Morris County, New Jersey.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$70,000 annual plus discretionary bonus

Position Overview:

As a Project Accountant, you will play a crucial role in managing project finances, including billing, invoicing, accounts receivable, and budgeting. This position requires strong organizational and analytical skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities of the Project Accountant:

  • Manage project billing and invoicing processes, ensuring accurate and timely submission of invoices to clients according to project milestones and contract terms
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments, resolving any billing discrepancies or issues
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop project budgets, providing financial insights and recommendations to ensure projects are delivered within budget constraints
  • Assist in the preparation of project financial reports, including budget vs. actual analysis, variance explanations, and profitability assessments
  • Maintain project-related financial records and documentation, ensuring proper filing and compliance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Conduct regular financial analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve project profitability
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Support the accounting team in implementing and improving internal controls and processes to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as construction, development, and property management, to gather and analyze project-related financial information
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to project accounting

Qualifications for the Project Accountant:

  • 1 to 3 years experience in accounting
  • Ability to work in office full-time for training, then 3x per week on-site
  • Experience with AP, Billing, Journal Entries & ability to work with multiple stakeholders

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required
