Our client is an American-based biotechnology company with a mission to create affordable and sustainable products for the global community. They are currently seeking a Protein Engineer to join their team.

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a Protein Engineer to join the company in its Bioprocessing department in Essex County, NJ. This is a unique opportunity for an individual to join a company that prioritizes being environmentally conscious. The Protein Engineer will be expected to support the lab team in the lab by performing experiments but also act as liaison with other departments to ensure collaboration.

Responsibilities of the Protein Engineer:

  • Working in an independent start-up atmosphere while following cGMP/GLP regulations
  • Development and optimization of downstream purification processes
  • Using lab experience and scientific literature to develop, justify and/or investigate formulation, processing techniques, and quality control protocols
  • Data collection/organization and processing data for analysis
  • Developing methodologies and strategies needed to progress products through the pipeline, including method development, qualification, formulation, stability support, product characterization

Qualifications of the Protein Engineer:

  • Must demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness in proactively identifying and proposing solutions to issues that may arise
  • Must be comfortable working within an R&D laboratory setting and be knowledgeable about the requirements of operating & maintaining an R&D laboratory
  • Self-starter who can be effective with minimal supervision
  • Strong equipment skills necessary to select, purchase, set-up, operate and maintain lab-scale processing equipment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of the company
  • Writing skills consistent with the ability to prepare concise, timely, and accurate reports
  • Experience with protein purification and process development in a cGMP environment is highly desired
  • Prior relevant industry experience is greatly desired and will be taken into account regarding salary
  • Significant independent research projects outside of the core curriculum may be consider depending on relevance

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the STEM sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Biomedical Engineering, etc.)
  • Graduate degrees are highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degrees will be considered with 3+ relevant industry experience
  • Candidates with Bachelors degrees and less than 3 years of experience can be considered for junior roles
