Position Overview:

The Buyer is responsible for the merchandising direction with the goal of achieving/exceeding sales and margin plans. This person will maintain a focus on the product and customer by incorporating competitive trends, customer insight, and business analysis. The Buyer will partner with cross-functional teams including marketing, social, drop ship, dev-ops and stores to develop strategies to maximize business opportunities.

Buyer’s Responsibilities:

  • Merchandising
  • Evaluating current businesses and competitive matrix for industry trends to identify key opportunities for growth monitors and attend major markets
  • Acquiring established brands while discovering new brands particularly in the Jewelry or Designer RTW categories
  • Executing the merchandising strategy and managing the buying process including product selection and building assortments based on historical and current product performance, analyzing business and managing inventory flow
  • Negotiating cost discounts, delivery, payment terms, exclusives and trunkshow cadence with vendor partners
  • Establishing, maintaining, and fostering brand relationships
  • Leading post-market reviews for cross-functional teams ensuring that the marketing calendar for messaging and trends are aligned
  • Executing deep-dives for performance analysis driving opportunities on a weekly, monthly, and seasonal basis
  • Managing business area’s site maintenance and presence
  • Financial planning
  • Partnering with the Planners on sales targets
  • Participating in the review of and approves the department’s topside financial plans
  • Providing insight for and participates in financial business reviews
  • Open-to-Buy responsibilities include maintaining PO checkbooks, managing markdown projections, developing and executing aged inventory strategies, overseeing receipt flows and projections, monitoring inventory productivity and profitability
  • Assisting in analyzing class performance, penetrations and AUR by class
  • Implementing assortment planning best practices and allocation strategies.
  • Collaborating with Planning on pricing strategy
  • Team Development
  • Coordinating and prioritizing the team’s weekly activities, develops and fosters a teamwork atmosphere
  • Sharing knowledge, manages, coaches and mentors the Assistant Merchandise Directors/Merchandise Coordinators for your department
  • Providing direct/indirect reports with timely and regular feedback to support teammate development and growth
  • Executing and participating in quarterly team development check in process

Qualifications for the Buyer:

  • More than 5 years of buying experience, categorized in Jewelry and/or Designer RTW is beneficial, overseeing both the creative and financial aspects of merchandising
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is required
  • Omni-channel or ecommerce experience is preferable
  • Experience with managing Merchandise Coordinator, Assistant and/or Associate Merchandise Directors
  • Knowledge of vendor drop ship
  • Strong Functional/Technical/PC skills, including Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Experience in digital communications or marketing functions is a plus
  • Strong relationship building skills
