Our client in the food industry is looking to hire a Senior Food Scientist with Product and Application Development experience.

Salary/Hourly Rate: $90K – $125K DOE

Position Overview: The Senior Food Scientist in Product and Application Development will plan, conduct, characterize, manage and report results of research and development projects using a stage-gate process – using a portfolio of ingredients to develop new products and new applications in the food industry.

Responsibilities of the Senior Food Scientist:

  • Employ knowledge of food chemistry/science to develop new products and new applications using Company’s ingredients and technologies
  • Employ food expertise (e.g. beverage, dairy, bakery, meat, soup knowledge) understanding the interactions between phosphates and various food ingredients to support customer projects either in Company’s labs or at a customer facility
  • Independently plan and conduct experiments and tests at the bench and in food pilot plant, analyze results and develop new products or improve existing products
  • Develop new solutions for existing technologies that meet a customer or market need
  • Lead the lab team to ensure Company’s laboratory can be recognized as a center of technical excellence
  • Interact with other technology personnel to understand structure-property relationships and provide input for improving product functionality
  • Work closely with the analytical team as needed to ensure proper data support of studies
  • Interact with Sales, Business and Marketing Teams to ensure proper support to customers
  • Occasionally present technical information to existing or potential clients
  • Maintain routine contact with other company’s teams such as customer service, quality assurance, plant personnel to resolve customer problems
  • Issue technical/project reports upon completion of major projects
  • Follow to the letter and spirit all Company’s safety policies
  • Support Product Stewardship by: Maintaining records on all R&D activities; developing new products that can be produced, handled, transported and disposed of safely; being involved in the early stages of safety and regulatory reviews
  • Up to 15% travel (can be domestic and international)

Qualifications for the Senior Food Scientist:

  • Needs to have at least 7 – 10 years of industry experience with at least 3 – 5 years of experience developing new products and applications in the food industry
  • Must have very strong experimental skills and computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability with strong written and communication skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work independently
  • Creative problem-solving abilities are required
  • Safe lab practices and lab experience is essential
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Education Requirements:

  • PhD in Food Science, Chemistry, or related area
