Our client is a well-known retail company. They are currently looking to hire an experienced Technical Accounting Manager for a newly created position. The Technical Accounting Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting the Finance department.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$107k – $140k
Position Overview:
The Technical Accounting Manager will lead the technical lease and capital accounting functions. The Technical Accounting Manager will often work autonomously but also have one direct report. The ideal candidate for this Technical Accounting Manager role will have work experience with the Big 4, exposure to Technical Leasing (ASC 842) and/or Capital Control, some management experience, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Responsibilities of the Technical Accounting Manager:
- Work together with the teams responsible for real estate and development to obtain the data required regarding the state of our capital projects (e.g., construction status, estimates of fair market value, when landlord reimbursements will occur, etc.) to ascertain the implications for capital accounting and leasing.
- Take charge of reviewing ASC 842 transaction files for lease starts, changes, and sale-leasebacks, including unsuccessful ones. You will also be responsible for conducting the necessary research and documentation for any technical queries that may come up.
- Keep up with Capital Control procedures, such as but not restricted to:
- Examining Company-processed transactions for treatment in capitalization versus expense accounting.
- Examining the settlement of assets that are still under construction as they are put into use.
- Examining asset retirement and the possible effects on the profit and loss statement.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for any reporting requirements that may emerge with our property development and maintenance teams.
- Take part in the leasing and capital control month-end close, which include going over journal entries, reconciliations, important spreadsheets, important controls, etc.
- Serve as the point of contact for inquiries about technical leasing and capital control made by internal and external audits.
- Complete additional tasks or projects as required in the administration of technical leasing and capital control files.
Qualifications for the Technical Accounting Manager:
- 2 – 5 plus years of relevant job experience.
- Prior experience working for a Big 4 or sizable CPA firm is necessary.
- There must be exposure to capital control and/or technical leasing (ASC 842).
- Requires a Certified Public Accountant.
- Technical accounting research experience is necessary.
- Prioritization is given to experience in management.
- Requires advanced Excel skills.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field is required.
