Even though we may not be gathering with our young professionals network or sharing our popcorn anytime soon, the 78th Annual Golden Globes Awards will be here before we know it. It’s reminding me how much I miss the acoustics of a theater. I especially miss the sweet/salty treats that accompany it.
To whoever created the saying “The show must go on,” thank you! Entertainment is something we are turning to our screens for a lot more of these days! Lucky for us, movie stars are rising to the occasion. After all, celebrities are people, too. Well, it’s true that they’re adapting along with their changed work environments just like the rest of us. Thankfully, film ingenuity and streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and others are working hard to keep us entertained while we spend more time at home.
So, if you’re tuning into his year’s ceremony on Sunday, February 28th, you might be wondering what Hollywood has to do with your current job search. But there are a few traditions beyond the glitz and glam that your young professionals network may find worthy of celebration.
And the Award Goes to…
The #GoldenGlobe Awards You Didn’t Know About:
Perhaps the greatest prizes that result from Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the organization that puts on the Golden Globes each year, are the scholarships, donations, and programs which benefit young professionals. Each year, A-List celebrities make an effort to bridge the gap to success for underprivileged aspiring artists, filmmakers, and storytellers by partnering with HFPA. As a result over the last 26 years, the HFPA has donated $45 million to entertainment-related nonprofit organizations, academic programs, and humanitarian organizations. They have provided more than 2,224 scholarships to college students and funded the restoration of over 138 classic films.
In general, annual celebrations and ceremonies are rewarding, but what makes them even better is the impact left behind. Wealthy and credible stars finding ways to give back to underprivileged young professionals in the film industry is the mustard seed to their future success.
As a business that is particularly inspired by award-winning talent, our team is thrilled to see HFPA investing in the bright futures of young, creative minds. We know success hinges on opportunity. Having the networks and means to connect with academic institutions, learning programs, jobs or internships can make all the difference in your career.
Whether or not you decide to tune-in this year, mark your calendar for February 28th. Rededicate yourself to your passion. Does it align with your job? Is it reflected in your resume? Work culture and our methods for learning are changing. In fact, these 3 things transformed internships alone in 2020. Perhaps you’re considering a change, too?
