Salary/Hourly Rate:
$35/hr – $40/hr
Position Overview:
The Sales Audit Accountant will be responsible for performing audits and reconciliations related to sales transactions, ensuring the accuracy of financial data, and supporting the smooth operation of the finance department. This role will involve collaborating with various internal teams, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and FP&A, to drive process improvements and support financial reporting activities. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to solving issues.
Responsibilities of the Sales Audit Accountant:
- Perform bank reconciliations and post related journal entries.
- Manage up to 70 store locations and their vendors/invoicing inquiries and processing.
- Reconcile credit card transactions, investigate variances, and work with stores to resolve discrepancies. Post journal entries for reclasses and actual shortages/overages once cleared.
- Track chargebacks and provide documentation to dispute them effectively.
- Support the Accounts Payable team in processing weekly payments.
- Maintain a new store opening checklist and set up new banking, AMEX, and Adyen accounts.
- Conduct period balance sheet reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and communicate issues promptly.
- Prepare and submit monthly sales reports to landlords.
- Assist with various monthly financial closing activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, and procedures to support the financial close.
- Collaborate with internal and external audit teams and assist with audit requests.
- Work with cross-functional teams such as FP&A, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable to support business processes and resolve issues.
- Drive process improvements and automate workflows to achieve efficiency and scalability.
Required Experience/Skills for the Sales Audit Accountant:
- 2+ years of accounting or sales audit experience, with a preference for experience in the retail, wholesale, or fashion industries. Candidates with experience in consumer goods are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong proficiency in Excel (including vlookups and pivot tables).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present analytical findings to senior management and business executives.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and the ability to connect the small picture with the broader financial goals.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Sales Audit Accountant:
- Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics AX12, Oracle JDE, or SAP is a plus.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- CPA is highly preferred.
