Client Overview:
Our client is a nonprofit organization looking to add a Director of Accounting in a temp-to-hire capacity.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$80k – $85k
Position Overview:
The ideal candidate for the Director of Accounting role will have a robust background in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and leadership in accounting operations, preferably within the nonprofit sector. Responsibilities of the Director of Accounting:
- Oversee and manage the general ledger, ensuring the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes, working closely with department heads to align financial goals with organizational objectives.
- Prepare and present detailed financial reports to senior management, providing actionable insights on key financial metrics and trends.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
- Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all financial data is accurate and submitted on time.
- Support the audit process by providing necessary documentation and addressing audit inquiries.
- Assist with tax filings and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting and financial reporting functions.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Required Experience/Skills for the Director of Accounting:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in general ledger accounting, financial management, and leadership, ideally in the nonprofit sector.
- Proficiency in financial reporting, accounting software, and ERP systems (advanced Excel skills required).
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial controls, and tax compliance.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a hybrid work environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- CPA or relevant certifications (CMA, CFA) are a plus.
