Client Overview:
Our client is a mission-driven healthcare organization dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to their patients. Currently, they are looking to add an Authorizations Specialist to their team. This position is a 3 – 6 month temp position.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$23/hr
Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Authorization Specialist to join our administrative team. This role is critical in ensuring the timely and accurate processing of prior medical services and procedures authorization. The ideal candidate will have experience in healthcare authorizations, strong communication skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service to patients and providers.
Responsibilities of the Authorization Specialist:
- Review, prepare, and submit prior authorization requests to insurance carriers.
- Follow up on pending authorizations and ensure timely approvals.
- Maintain detailed records of all authorizations and denials.
- Communicate with providers, insurance companies, and patients regarding authorization status.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits as needed.
- Collaborate with clinical and billing teams to ensure alignment on authorization requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient and organizational information.
Required Experience/Skills for the Authorization Specialist:
- 1 – 2 years of experience in medical authorizations or a related healthcare administrative role.
- Knowledge of insurance guidelines and prior authorization processes.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Authorization Specialist:
- Experience with payer portals (e.g., Availity, Navinet).
- Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding.
- Bilingual in Spanish or other languages is a plus.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Associate’s degree or certification in healthcare administration or medical billing is preferred.
