Position Overview:

The Senior Investment Accountant serves as a key member of the Finance team, acting as the primary liaison between the Accounting and Investments teams. This role ensures the integrity of the organization’s complex investment portfolio through meticulous accounting, reconciliation, and financial reporting. The Senior Investment Accountant also plays a critical role in internal controls, compliance, process optimization, and supporting strategic liquidity initiatives.

Responsibilities of the Senior Investment Accountant:

  • Maintain accurate and timely reporting of investment portfolio activity in accordance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Reconcile monthly custodian data with general ledger and post necessary journal entries.
  • Set up and manage investment accounts and ensure documentation and compliance controls.
  • Serve as liaison with investment custodians and internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare audit schedules and footnotes related to investments; respond to auditor inquiries.
  • Review K-1s, support tax compliance efforts, and ensure accurate investment tax treatment.
  • Enhance internal controls and drive automation and process improvements in investment accounting.
  • Lead liquidity analysis and serve as the contact for the organization’s line of credit providers.
  • Support strategic initiatives with data and insights to inform financial planning.

Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Investment Accountant:

  • Strong accounting background with emphasis on investment or nonprofit finance.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting standards.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in general ledger systems.
  • Experience accounting for alternative investments, including hedge funds, private equity, and venture capital.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across internal and external teams.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Investment Accountant:

  • CPA certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with K-1s and fund manager reporting.
  • Background in streamlining accounting workflows and implementing automation.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required; CPA preferred.
