Salary/Hourly Rate:
$40/hr – $50/hr, Commensurate with experience and credentials
Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the organization’s financial operations. This position is responsible for reconciling, analyzing, and reporting on financial activity while processing day-to-day accounting transactions. The Senior Accountant role ensures compliance with GAAP and internal policies, identifies opportunities for process improvement, supports budgeting and audits, and collaborates across departments to deliver timely and reliable financial reporting.
Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:
- Coordinate the recording, reconciliation, and reporting of all accounting activity to ensure accuracy and GAAP compliance.
- Oversee proper coding and reconciliation of transactions across subsystems, credit card platforms, and bank systems.
- Review contracts, grants, donor agreements, and MOUs to record revenue recognition in compliance with accounting standards.
- Manage budgeting, tracking, and reporting of financial activity related to individual grants.
- Prepare and analyze project budgets and monthly grant reports; update and reconcile grant revenues and expenditures.
- Ensure grant compliance with city, foundation, and private funder requirements.
- Perform monthly cash reconciliations and implement cash handling best practices.
- Monitor accounts receivable and payable aging reports; collaborate with internal teams and vendors to resolve delinquencies.
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Support year-end and compliance audits by preparing schedules and gathering supporting documentation.
- Contribute to special projects and ad hoc assignments as needed.
Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Demonstrated experience with grant accounting, particularly city and foundation grants.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with ERP systems.
- Nonprofit sector experience.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
