Our client is an innovative biotechnology company focused on advancing fermentation-based products in healthcare, sustainability, and life sciences. They are looking to add a Fermentation Scientist to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$90k – $100k Annually, Based on experience and qualifications
Position Overview:
We are looking for a Fermentation Scientist to join the process development team and lead day-to-day operations in the fermentation lab and pilot plant. The Fermentation Scientist will oversee the preparation of equipment and culture media, run small- and mid-scale fermentation experiments, draft standard protocols, and troubleshoot systems to ensure optimal performance.
Responsibilities of the Fermentation Scientist:
- Set up, sterilize, and operate fermenters ranging from benchtop scale to 200L.
- Independently plan and perform fermentation runs based on existing protocols.
- Record, analyze, and interpret experimental data and present findings to internal teams.
- Write and maintain clear standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain lab cleanliness, calibrate equipment, and proactively manage supplies.
- Monitor fermentation performance and adjust parameters to improve yields or quality.
- Ensure compliance with lab safety practices and quality standards.
Required Experience/Skills for the Fermentation Scientist:
- 3 – 5 years of practical experience in fermentation.
- Familiarity with fermenter operation and microbial growth monitoring.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
- Self-starter with a strong sense of accountability and attention to detail.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Fermentation Scientist:
- Previous work in a regulated (GMP or GLP) setting.
- Experience working cross-functionally with upstream or downstream processing teams.
- Ability to pivot between multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment.
- Prior experience as a Fermentation Scientist or similar lab-based title.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field is required for the Fermentation Scientist.
