Client Overview:

Our client is a global leader in cosmetic science research. They are now looking for a LC-Orbitrap Specialist.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$40/hr – $50/hr DOE

Position Overview:

The LC-Orbitrap Specialist will be responsible for developing and optimizing analytical techniques for assessing amino acids, lipids, and their derivatives—primarily using LC-MS platforms such as LC-QTOF and LC-Orbitrap. Research areas include hair, sebum, and potentially skin, with a focus on understanding lipid and protein changes due to physical and chemical treatments. The position also involves proof-of-concept studies to demonstrate the efficacy and mechanisms of active ingredients in protecting hair from various stressors. Additional support may be required for claims substantiation projects during peak workloads.

Responsibilities of the LC-Orbitrap Specialist:

  • Manage method development.
  • Design and refine high-resolution LC-MS methods for lipid and amino acid analysis.
  • Select optimal chromatographic conditions and MS/MS parameters.
  • Validate methods for accuracy, sensitivity, and reproducibility.
  • Manage sample Preparation.
  • Extract target compounds from biological samples using appropriate protocols.
  • Prepare samples for LC-MS analysis, ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Handle instrument operation.
  • Operate LC-QTOF or LC-Orbitrap systems for routine analyses.
  • Perform maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor performance and ensure data integrity.
  • Conduct data analysis.
  • Interpret MS and MS/MS data for compound identification and quantification.
  • Utilize software tools for data processing and visualization.
  • Summarize findings for internal and external reporting.
  • Manage documentation & Reporting.
  • Prepare technical reports and maintain detailed experimental records.
  • Communicate results effectively to team members and collaborators.
  • Perform Cross-Functional support.
  • Assist with other analytical techniques (e.g., GC-MS, HPTLC, DSC, SEM, fluorescence microscopy) as needed.
  • Contribute to various internal and client-funded research projects.
  • Manage scientific engagement.
  • Participate in scientific writing and conference presentations.
  • Stay current with analytical trends through webinars and professional events.
  • Collaborate with external partners and clients.
  • Handle project management.
  • Balance multiple projects, prioritizing client deliverables while supporting internal research.

Required Experience/Skills for the LC-Orbitrap Specialist:

  • Proven expertise in high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF or LC-Orbitrap).
  • Strong skills in method development, compound identification, and data interpretation.

  • Strong skills in method development, compound identification, and data interpretation.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent project management capabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and adapt to evolving research needs.
  • Experience in literature review and scientific writing.
  • Background in lipidomics and Amino Acids.
  • Familiarity with various chromatographic techniques.

Education Requirements: 

  • Ph.D. in Natural Sciences or Engineering (master’s degree with relevant experience may be considered).
