Client Overview:

Our client is a well-established nonprofit organization seeking a Grant Accountant to join its finance team. The organization provides a wide range of community-based programs supported by city, state, federal, and foundation funding.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$60k – $65k

Position Overview:

The Grant Accountant will be responsible for managing and reporting on a portfolio of government and foundation grants. This includes overseeing contract compliance, invoicing, and financial reporting, as well as providing support to program and finance staff in budget monitoring and audits.

Responsibilities of the Grant Accountant:

  • Manage the grants lifecycle, including pre- and post-award activities.
  • Prepare budgets and coordinate submissions with program teams.
  • Maintain organized grant files and respond to funder inquiries.
  • Prepare accurate monthly/quarterly financial and reimbursement reports.
  • Monitor spending against budgets and provide variance analysis.
  • Record Accounts Receivable and ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Support annual audit processes and government funding audits.
  • Coordinate with payroll and other departments for accurate billing.
  • Stay current on funder reporting and invoicing requirements.

Required Experience/Skills for the Grant Accountant:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with government grants.
  • Familiarity with Federal, State, and City funding sources.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Grant Accountant:

  • Experience with nonprofit accounting systems (e.g., MIP).
  • Familiarity with submission portals (HHS Accelerator, PASSPort, GrantsGateway).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related subject required.
