Client Overview:

Our client is a private Ivy League research university located in Providence, Rhode Island. They are looking to add a Junior CNC Machinist to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$25/hr

Position Overview:

The Junior CNC Machinist will support numerous departments by performing precision machining and prototype fabrication. The establishment provides hands-on access to trained students, staff, and faculty for academic and research purposes. The Junior CNC Machinist will also assist in introducing users to machine shop technologies and safe machining practices. The schedule is from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (37.5 hours a week).

Responsibilities for the Junior CNC Machinist: 

• Perform precision machining and fabrication of parts and models in various materials to close tolerances.
• Operate all equipment, including:
  • Lathes.
  • Bridgeport-type milling machines.
  • CNC retrofit milling machines.
  • Surface grinders.
  • Band saws.
  • Grinders.
  • Presses.
• Produce high-quality parts efficiently and on schedule.
• Instruct machining courses and advise users on safe practices and procedures.
• Support students, staff, and faculty in using shop equipment safely and effectively.

Required Experience/Skills for the Junior CNC Machinist:

• 1 – 2 years of hands-on experience in a model shop or experimental machining environment.
• Strong manual machining skills and CNC experience 
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Proficiency in brazing, TIG, and arc welding across various metals.
• Ownership of basic machine shop tools.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Junior CNC Machinist:

• Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
• Flexible and adaptable personality.
• Additional software experience related to machining or design.
• Ability to set up, program CNC mill and CNC lathe is a plus.
• Knowledge of MasterCam is a plus.

Education Requirements:

• High school diploma or trade school certification in machining is required.
