Our client is a global organization in Somerset County, is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join their growing Finance team. This position plays a critical role in supporting project financials from inception through completion, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and strong financial controls across multiple high-value developments.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$110k – $120k
Position Overview:
The Senior Project Accountant plays a key role in managing the financial performance of multiple projects from inception through completion. This position is responsible for overseeing all project-related accounting functions, including budgeting, cost tracking, billing, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Responsibilities of the Senior Project Accountant:
- The Senior Project Accountant will serve as the primary financial liaison between project management, operations, and corporate accounting.
- The Senior Project Accountant will manage all aspects of project accounting, including job cost tracking, budget vs. actual analysis, and forecasting.
- Review and approve subcontractor invoices, change orders, and purchase orders for accuracy and contract compliance.
- The Senior Project Accountant will prepare and maintain project cost reports, cash flow projections, and monthly financial summaries for senior leadership.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts related to project activity and ensure timely month-end close processes.
- The Senior Project Accountant will support audits and assist with the preparation of workpapers and supporting schedules.
- Collaborate with project managers to monitor performance metrics and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- The Senior Project Accountant will ensure all project accounting practices comply with GAAP and internal controls.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to streamline project billing, reporting, and cost allocation procedures.
Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Project Accountant:
- 5 – 8+ years of progressive project accounting experience, ideally within project-based industries.
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and capital project reporting.
- Proficiency in ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Advanced degree is preferred.
