Client Overview:

Our client is seeking a Payroll Manager to provide leadership and oversight during a critical transition period. The organization employs a large hourly workforce and offers a collaborative, community-oriented environment.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$35/hr – $40/hr

Position Overview:

The Payroll Manager will oversee the payroll process and supervise payroll staff members to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll operations. This role will assist the organization as it strengthens its payroll processes and systems. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in managing payroll for a large, multi-state employee base.

Responsibilities of the Payroll Manager:

  • Manage payroll processing function as a whole.
  • Supervise and support Payroll team members, ensuring all pay cycles are accurate and on schedule.
  • Review, audit, and reconcile payroll data for accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with HR and Finance to improve payroll workflows and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare payroll-related reports for management.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal payroll regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve overall efficiency.

Required Experience/Skills for the Payroll Manager:

  • 5+ years of payroll experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Experience overseeing multi-state payroll.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables required).
  • Proven ability to manage payroll teams and processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Payroll Manager:

  • Experience with payroll system transitions or upgrades.

Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
