Client Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Cybersecurity Engineer to help design, implement, and maintain a robust security posture across their enterprise technology environment. This role is crucial in safeguarding systems, data, and users against evolving cyber threats, while supporting business growth and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$120k – $155k Annually, depending on experience.
Position Overview:
The Cybersecurity Engineer will work closely with Infrastructure, Cloud, Application, and Business teams to ensure security is embedded into day-to-day operations and long-term initiatives. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with strong risk management and communication skills, enabling proactive threat prevention, effective incident response, and continuous improvement of our security program. Our client is excited to welcome a skilled Cybersecurity Engineer to their team to help protect their clients’ systems, data, and users. Responsibilities of the Cybersecurity Engineer:
- Design, implement, and maintain security controls across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
- Monitor security events and alerts using SIEM and endpoint security tools to identify, investigate, and respond to threats.
- Lead incident response activities, including containment, remediation, root-cause analysis, and post-incident reporting.
- Implement and manage endpoint protection, EDR/XDR, vulnerability scanning, and patch management programs.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation efforts with the Infrastructure and Application teams.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry best practices.
- Support identity and access management (IAM) initiatives, including MFA, least-privilege access, and privileged access management.
- Collaborate with DevOps and the Engineering teams to integrate security into CI/CD pipelines and application design.
- Assist with compliance efforts and audits (SOC 2, PCI, ISO 27001), including evidence collection and remediation tracking.
- Evaluate and manage third-party security tools and vendors.
- Perform risk assessments and provide actionable recommendations to reduce organizational risk.
- Deliver security awareness guidance and best practices to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Monitor emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends to proactively improve defenses.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning from a security perspective.
- Participate in security projects and initiatives, occasionally outside standard business hours, to minimize operational risk.
Required Experience/Skills for the Cybersecurity Engineer:
- 5+ years of experience as a Cybersecurity Engineer, Information Security, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of security principles, threat modeling, and risk management.
- Hands-on experience with endpoint security, SIEM, vulnerability management, and incident response.
- Experience securing cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, GCP, Microsoft 365, Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS), Windows Server, and virtualization platforms.
- Knowledge of networking concepts, firewalls (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco), IDS/IPS, CrowdStrike, Darktrace, SIEM platforms, DNS security, Cloudflare, and web security.
- Experience implementing and managing IAM, MFA, and access controls.
- Ability to communicate security risks and recommendations clearly to both technical and business audiences.
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
- Experience in several of the following technologies is required:
- Identity & Access Management: Azure AD / Entra ID, MFA, SSO, Privileged Access Management (PIM/PAM)
- Monitoring & Tools: Vulnerability scanners, endpoint management tools, ticketing systems (Jira, ServiceNow)
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Cybersecurity Engineer:
- Experience with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, PCI DSS, ISO 27001, or NIST.
- Hands-on experience with EDR/XDR tools (e.g., CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender).
- Experience with security automation, scripting, or SOAR platforms.
- Background in DevSecOps practices and securing containerized or microservices-based applications.
- Experience conducting tabletop exercises and security incident simulations.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is required.
- Relevant certifications are preferred: CISSP, CISM, Security+, CEH, AWS/Azure Security certifications.
