Our client, a well-established global consumer products company, is seeking a Formulation Scientist (Personal Care) to support the development of innovative products for global markets.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$105k – $125k
Position Overview:
This Formulation Scientist (Personal Care) role will focus on new product development and formulation while also contributing to technologies that enhance product performance and support consumer health. This is a high-impact opportunity supporting a flagship product portfolio, with close collaboration across marketing, manufacturing, regulatory, and quality to bring innovative products from concept through launch.
Responsibilities of the Formulation Scientist (Personal Care):
- Lead the formulation and development of innovative personal care products supporting a range of new product initiatives.
- Design and develop targeted formulations, including treatment and specialty care products, to enhance product performance, sensory attributes, and overall consumer benefit.
- Manage multiple product development projects from concept through commercialization while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
- Optimize formula performance using technical expertise in surfactants, emulsions, polymers, and related formulation systems.
- Conduct stability, physicochemical, and efficacy testing, including instrumental analysis and application-based product evaluation.
- Partner with marketing to translate consumer insights into innovative product concepts, positioning, and claims.
- Support product claims development through scientific substantiation, testing, and consumer-focused evaluation.
- Troubleshoot formulation, stability, and scale-up challenges that arise during development and commercialization.
- Evaluate emerging raw materials and technologies to support innovation and continuous product improvement.
- Monitor competitive products, technology trends, and relevant patent activity within the personal care category.
- Collaborate with Regulatory and Safety teams to help ensure products meet applicable global compliance and safety standards.
Required Experience/Skills for the Formulation Scientist (Personal Care):
- 5+ years of R&D and formulation experience in consumer products, personal care, or a related category.
- Strong technical expertise in formulation development, including surfactants, emulsions, polymers, and ingredient functionality.
- Experience optimizing products for performance, stability, sensory attributes, and consumer benefit.
- Proven ability to manage product development from concept through commercial launch.
- Familiarity with product safety, testing, and regulatory requirements in a consumer-facing industry.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills in cross-functional settings.
- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in product and formulation development.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field is required.
- An advanced degree is preferred.
