Client Overview:

Our client is a well-established, family-owned business with a strong reputation for quality, stability, and long-term growth. They are currently expanding their team and looking to add an Assistant Controller to their team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to step into a key leadership role and help drive financial operations and process improvements.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$145k – $165k

Position Overview:

The Assistant Controller will play a critical leadership role within the Accounting and Finance team, supporting the Controller in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting. This role will manage a team of at least three accounting professionals and will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and improving accounting processes. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to mentor and develop staff in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Controller:

  • The Assistant Controller will oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of at least three accounting professionals.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • The Assistant Controller will ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
  • Strengthen and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • The Assistant Controller will support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency within the accounting function.
  • The Assistant Controller will partner with leadership across departments to support financial decision-making.

Required Experience/Skills for the Assistant Controller:

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing and developing accounting staff.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience overseeing month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Assistant Controller:

  • CPA is strongly preferred.
  • Prior public accounting experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in a mid-sized or family-owned business environment.
  • Background in process improvement and system optimization.
  • Experience supporting audits and external reporting.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • A CPA designation is preferred.
