Our client is a nonprofit, community-based medical center located in Trenton, New Jersey. They provide affordable primary healthcare and related services to people of all ages, especially those in underserved communities. THey are currently looking to add an Assistant Controller to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$40/hr – $45/hr
Position Overview:
The Assistant Controller supports the Accounting Controller in managing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, including month-end close, general ledger oversight, grants accounting support, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role serves as a key partner to the Controller to ensure accuracy, timeliness, compliance with GAAP, and strong internal controls.
Responsibilities of the Assistant Controller:
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, including monthly and quarterly financial statements and variance analyses.
- Maintain, reconcile, and oversee general ledger and key balance sheet accounts (cash, AR, AP, accruals, fixed assets).
- Support and review journal entries, financial data accuracy, and month-end close processes.
- Assist in managing accounting staff workflows and ensuring the timely completion of assigned tasks and deadlines.
- Support grants accounting, including reconciliation, compliance with Uniform Guidance/HRSA requirements, and expense validation.
- Coordinate audit preparation and provide required schedules for financial, 401(k), and single audits.
- Assist with pharmacy revenue recognition, reconciliation, and reporting processes.
- Monitor and update forecasts, budgeting, and financial projections regularly (monthly, quarterly, year-end).
- Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with US GAAP and organizational policies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial operations, reporting, and compliance.
Required Experience/Skills for the Assistant Controller:
- Strong general accounting experience, including GL management and reconciliations.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Experience supporting audits and preparing audit schedules.
- Familiarity with grants accounting and compliance processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-department collaboration skills.
- Close attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Assistant Controller:
- Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or FQHC environments.
- Experience with MIP or similar ERP/accounting systems.
- Knowledge of pharmacy revenue or healthcare revenue cycle processes.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
