Our client, a respected law firm, is seeking a detail-oriented Legal Billing Coordinator to join their Finance team.
Position Overview:
This Legal Billing Coordinator supports attorneys and practice groups across all aspects of the billing lifecycle and plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely client invoicing. The ideal candidate has prior law firm billing experience, enjoys partnering closely with attorneys, and understands the importance of precision, confidentiality, and client guidelines in a legal setting.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$65k – $70k
Responsibilities of the Legal Billing Coordinator:
- Prepare, review, and finalize monthly client invoices for assigned partners, associates, and practice groups.
- Generate, distribute, track, and process prebills, including attorney markups, narrative edits, and revisions.
- Collaborate closely with attorneys and legal support staff to resolve time entry issues, billing discrepancies, and unbilled time.
- Submit invoices via both paper billing and electronic billing platforms in accordance with client requirements.
- Ensure compliance with client-specific billing guidelines, rate structures, and matter requirements.
- Monitor and address e-billing rejections, reductions, and appeals.
- Run and maintain accounts receivable, aging, and unbilled time reports for attorneys and management.
- Respond to billing questions from attorneys, clients, and internal leadership.
- Support collections and payment follow-up in coordination with finance leadership.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client, billing, and financial information.
- Assist with process improvements and special billing projects as needed.
Required Experience/Skills for the Legal Billing Coordinator:
- 3 – 5 years of billing experience, including at least 2 years in a law firm environment.
- Strong understanding of legal billing processes, matter-based billing, and attorney timekeeping.
- Experience with electronic billing systems such as Elite 3E.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with attorneys and partners.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating cross-functionally.
- Working onsite.
- High level of discretion and professionalism.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma is required.
- Some college coursework is preferred.
