Our client is a premier international law firm with a strong New York presence and a reputation for delivering high-quality, innovative legal solutions. The firm fosters a collaborative and high-performance culture, supporting its global operations through a robust and forward-thinking Information Services Department. They are now looking for a Messaging Systems Engineer.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$130k – $170k

Position Overview:

The Messaging Systems Engineer will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise messaging systems across a global environment. This position will focus heavily on Microsoft Exchange (on-prem and online), Active Directory/Entra, and cloud-based messaging infrastructure. This role will contribute to projects from initial research and design through implementation, documentation, and ongoing support, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performing messaging solutions. As a Messaging Systems Engineer, you will collaborate closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams to maintain a resilient messaging ecosystem. This role is ideal for a Messaging Systems Engineer who thrives in complex, enterprise-scale environments and wants to shape the firm’s messaging strategy.

Responsibilities of the Messaging Systems Engineer:

  • Design, implement, migrate, and support Microsoft Exchange (on-premises and Exchange Online).
  • Architect and maintain global messaging infrastructure including Exchange, Active Directory/Entra, DNS, DHCP, and security systems.
  • Manage and maintain Active Directory/Entra environments, including RBAC, monitoring, security, and disaster recovery.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve messaging and directory-related issues across the enterprise.
  • Manage messaging security including anti-spam, anti-virus, TLS, and third-party mail gateways.
  • Monitor messaging environments proactively and recommend performance and security improvements.
  • Design, implement, and support Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions such as Intune, MobileIron, and AirWatch.
  • Develop technical documentation, runbooks, and training materials for internal teams.
  • Execute and support large-scale technology projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Provide after-hours support for critical systems and project deliverables as needed.

Required Experience/Skills for the Messaging Systems Engineer:

  • Minimum 6+ years of experience with Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory.
  • Expertise in Exchange Online administration.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Entra (Azure AD), including user and group management (including dynamic groups), Conditional Access policies and MFA implementation, guest identity lifecycle management (External ID), Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and monitoring and audit log analysis.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience with Active Directory and Exchange environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with MDM solutions such as Intune and MobileIron.
  • Strong understanding of messaging security technologies (anti-spam, anti-virus, TLS, gateways).
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Visio.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Messaging Systems Engineer:

  • Experience working in a large law firm or professional services environment.
  • Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory certifications.
  • Experience supporting large, global user environments.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure components such as load balancers, VMware, compute, and storage systems.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale identity and access management.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
