Client Overview:

Our client is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping first-generation students from low-income backgrounds access higher education and successfully earn their college degrees. They do this through college advising, career mentorship, financial aid, and targeted scholarship support. Their overall goal is to empower students to overcome barriers and achieve long-term academic success. They are seeking an experienced Part-Time HR Manager to join their mission on a part-time contract basis.

Salary/Hourly Rate: 

$35/hr – $50/hr

Position Overview: 

The Part-Time HR Manager will be expected to work 15 – 20 hours a week. This is a remote role, but the associate must be based in the United States. The Part-Time HR Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s day-to-day HR functions while ensuring compliance with employment laws, organizational policies, and nonprofit best practices. This role partners with leadership to support recruitment, employee relations, performance management, payroll coordination, benefits administration, and talent development, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture. The Part-Time HR Manager also develops and implements HR policies and procedures, maintains accurate employee records, and provides strategic guidance on workforce planning and organizational initiatives. Working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment, this position balances hands-on HR administration with strategic support to help the organization attract, retain, and develop a high-performing team.

Responsibilities of the Part-Time HR Manager: 

  • Maintain accurate personnel records and company documentation by conducting regular audits and ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
  • Communicate HR policies, updates, and initiatives while presenting key information during staff and supervisor meetings.
  • Lead cross-functional projects.
  • Track, analyze, and update HR metrics.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors on employee relations matters while ensuring compliance.
  • Partner with department leaders to assess workforce needs and develop effective staffing plans.
  • Assist with all stages of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee transitions, and offboarding.

Required Experience/Skills for the Part-Time HR Manager:

  • Minimum of 5 years of HR experience.
  • Knowledge of California labor laws and regulations.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, especially the union population.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Part-Time HR Manager:

  • Proficiency in macOS and Google Workspace (G Suite).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with exceptional project management and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, particularly in HR or a related field.
