Client Overview:

Our client, a well-established Florida law firm, is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary to join its Fort Lauderdale office. This position offers the opportunity to support a busy litigation practice handling complex medical malpractice matters in a collaborative and professional environment.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$70,000 – $90,000

Position Overview:

The Legal Secretary will provide comprehensive administrative and litigation support to attorneys throughout all phases of medical malpractice litigation, from pre-suit through trial and appeal. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and experienced in managing complex litigation files in a fast-paced legal setting.

Responsibilities of the Legal Secretary:

  • Prepare, proofread, and format pleadings, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Maintain and organize electronic and physical case files from case inception through closing.
  • Coordinate attorney calendars, including hearings, depositions, mediations, meetings, and other litigation events.
  • Monitor court deadlines and ensure timely filings in both state and federal courts.
  • Assist with discovery, trial preparation, exhibit organization, and deposition coordination.
  • File legal documents electronically with state and federal courts.
  • Perform administrative tasks including opening new matters, conflict checks, time entry, expense reports, and travel coordination.
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and third-party vendors as needed.

Required Experience/Skills for the Legal Secretary:

  • 3–5+ years of Medical Malpractice Legal Secretary experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of Florida state and federal court procedures, including e-filing.
  • Experience supporting attorneys through all phases of litigation.
  • Excellent organizational, proofreading, and document formatting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Experience with legal document management systems (iManage or similar) preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Legal Secretary:

  • Trial preparation experience.
  • Experience supporting multiple attorneys in a fast-paced litigation practice.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary certificate is a plus.
