Client Overview:

Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit healthcare organization dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible healthcare services to underserved communities. The organization is experiencing continued growth and is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

Up to $165,000

Position Overview:

The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial operations for a complex nonprofit healthcare organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will lead a team of accounting professionals and be responsible for financial reporting, compliance, audits, grants management, cash management, payroll, and strategic financial support. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader looking to make a meaningful impact within a mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities of the Controller:

  • Lead all accounting and finance operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, grant accounting, contracts, and cash management.
  • Manage the monthly and year-end close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare financial statements, forecasts, regulatory filings, and board reporting packages.
  • Coordinate and manage external audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, grant requirements, Uniform Guidance, Medicare, Medicaid, and other applicable regulations.
  • Partner with executive leadership to support strategic financial planning and organizational decision-making.
  • Develop, mentor, and supervise a team of accounting and finance professionals.
  • Strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial processes to support organizational growth.

Required Experience/Skills for the Controller:

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
  • Prior experience within a nonprofit healthcare environment.
  • Strong audit management experience, including Uniform Guidance audits.
  • Experience with grant and contract accounting.
  • Deep understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Proven experience leading and developing accounting teams.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Controller:

  • Experience within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or similar healthcare organization.
  • Public accounting background strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Solomon, and/or Paycom.
  • Experience managing accounting operations for organizations with $10M+ operating budgets.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA or equivalent public accounting experience strongly preferred.
