Client Overview:

Our client is a boutique medical billing company based in Bergen County, New Jersey, specializing in out-of-network (OON) insurance billing for a wide range of healthcare providers and facilities. With a new orthopedic account coming onboard, the company is expanding and seeking a Medical Biller to support claim processing, insurance follow-up, and accurate billing operations.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$25/hr

Position Overview:

The Medical Biller will manage billing processes with a strong focus on calling insurance companies, following up on outstanding claims, and driving them to full resolution. Knowledge of out-of-network billing is a plus, but training is provided. A strong work ethic and previous billing experience are essential.
This role begins onsite for training (5 days/week) and transitions to a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite / 2 days remote).

Responsibilities of the Medical Biller:

  • Process and submit medical claims to insurance companies in a timely manner.
  • Review patient records for accuracy and completeness prior to billing.
  • Utilize ICD-10 and ICD-9 coding systems to ensure proper billing codes are applied.
  • Follow up on outstanding claims and payments; call insurance companies regularly.
  • Work with healthcare providers to resolve billing discrepancies or issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of all billing transactions and communications.
  • Stay updated on changes in medical coding regulations and insurance policies.
  • Assist in collecting patient payments and managing payment plans.
  • Ensure all billing practices comply with relevant laws and regulations.

Required Experience/Skills for the Medical Biller:

  • Proficiency in medical billing software and EMR systems; training will be provided.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10/ICD-9, DRG, and medical collections.
  • Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
  • Familiarity with medical records management practices is a plus.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional billing or coding coursework preferred.
