Client Overview:

Our client, a leading national retail company, is seeking a Sample Assistant to support their Merchant and Product Technical Services teams. This role will manage physical product samples, assist with sample tracking and organization, and coordinate sample reviews and feedback in a fast-paced corporate environment.  

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$18/hr  

Position Overview:

The Sample Assistant will support the receipt, organization, tracking, digitization, and storage of physical product samples. This position combines administrative and hands-on responsibilities and is ideal for someone highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both at a computer and with physical products. This role is fully onsite, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  

Responsibilities of the Sample Assistant:

  • Track expected samples and communicate sample needs and due dates to vendors.
  • Send weekly updates regarding late or outstanding samples.
  • Unpack and organize physical samples by department or team member.
  • Receive samples in the internal sample tracking system and update records.
  • Print and attach barcodes to samples to track their location.
  • Photograph and digitize physical samples according to established guidelines.
  • Organize samples in designated storage areas and maintain accurate location records.
  • Pull samples for Merchant and team reviews and assist with conference room setup.
  • Record sample feedback, buyer notes, and approval decisions in the sample tracking system.
  • Communicate sample feedback to vendors via email.
  • Check samples in and out of storage as requested.
  • Regularly organize and dispose of approved samples in accordance with company procedures.

Required Experience/Skills for the Sample Assistant:

  • 1+ years of related work or retail experience.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in an office environment while also performing physical tasks.
  • Ability to unpack boxes and move sample racks or packages.
  • Ability to lift packages up to 35 lbs.
  • Team player with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Sample Assistant:

  • Retail, fashion, merchandising, or product-related experience.
  • Experience working with physical product samples or inventory.
  • Experience using databases, sample tracking systems, or inventory management tools.
  • Experience supporting Merchandising or Product Development teams.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma required. A four-year degree is not required.
