Our client is an innovative, science-driven organization focused on developing high-quality ingredient and product solutions that meet the evolving needs of their customers and consumers. They are looking to add a Lab Tech, R&D, to their team. Position Overview:

The Lab Tech, R&D will support laboratory, product development, and application activities through the preparation, testing, evaluation, and application of ingredients and raw materials for designated projects. This position is responsible for accurately executing laboratory procedures, documenting results, preparing samples, and supporting product and process evaluations in accordance with established specifications and protocols. The Lab Tech, R&D is detail-oriented, organized, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced laboratory environment where priorities may shift based on project needs. The Lab Tech, R&D will work closely with Technical and Project teams and must demonstrate a collaborative, team-oriented mindset while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, accuracy, and documentation.  

Responsibilities of the Lab Tech, R&D:

  • Perform laboratory activities associated with the testing, evaluation, processing, and application of ingredients, raw materials, and finished or developmental products according to established specifications and project requirements.
  • Prepare, label, organize, and maintain samples for laboratory testing, product evaluations, customer projects, and internal studies.
  • Conduct routine material and product testing and accurately record observations, measurements, results, and other relevant data.
  • Support ingredient and product application work, including preparing formulations, prototypes, blends, or test samples according to established procedures and project instructions.
  • Perform sensory evaluations and physical assessments of raw materials, intermediate samples, and finished products, as applicable.
  • Evaluate laboratory results against established specifications or project requirements and promptly communicate findings, observations, deviations, or unexpected results to appropriate team members.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely laboratory records and prepare reports or summaries of testing activities and results.
  • Properly handle, store, identify, and dispose of laboratory materials and ingredients in accordance with established safety and laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace, including routine cleaning and sanitation of work areas and laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with monitoring laboratory supplies, ingredients, consumables, and inventory to help ensure materials are available for scheduled project work.
  • Operate laboratory and processing equipment according to established procedures and assist with routine equipment checks, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting as appropriate.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously while effectively managing priorities, deadlines, and changing business or project needs.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, organization, safety, and work processes.
  • Participate in required safety, GMP, quality, and technical training and maintain knowledge of applicable laboratory procedures.

Required Experience/Skills for the Lab Tech, R&D:

  • General laboratory experience, including familiarity with standard laboratory practices, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, testing protocols, specifications, formulas, and work instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to generate accurate, repeatable work and maintain thorough documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely handle laboratory materials, ingredients, equipment, and samples.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Lab Tech, R&D:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new laboratory methods, testing techniques, processing procedures, equipment, and product applications.
  • Strong observation, problem-solving, and basic analytical skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly document and communicate laboratory results.
  • Experience maintaining laboratory documentation, test results, electronic records, and inventory.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline is required.
  • Relevant laboratory, manufacturing, food, chemical, or product development experience may be considered in combination with education, where appropriate.
