Client Overview:

Our client is a well-established apparel company specializing in men’s and boys’ apparel sold through major retail channels. They are looking to add an Associate Designer – Men’s/Boys’ Apparel to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$75k – $80k

Position Overview: 

The Associate Designer – Men’s & Boys’ Apparel will support the design team in developing seasonal collections from concept through production. This role works closely with product development, merchandising, and sourcing teams to ensure designs are innovative, trend-right, and commercially viable. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in menswear or boyswear design, excellent technical skills, and a passion for creating product that resonates with today’s consumer.

Responsibilities of the Associate Designer – Men’s/Boys’ Apparel:

  • Support the Design team in developing seasonal men’s and boys’ apparel collections from concept through production.
  • Create sketches, CADs, colorways, and technical design packages to support product development.
  • Conduct trend, market, and competitive research to identify opportunities for new product concepts.
  • Assist in fabric, trim, and color selection to ensure collections remain commercially relevant and on trend.
  • Collaborate with Product Development, Merchandising, and Sourcing teams to ensure designs are production-ready.
  • Participate in fittings and assist with updates to design specifications as needed.
  • Prepare presentation boards, line sheets, and design materials for internal and external meetings.
  • Maintain organized design files and ensure accurate updates throughout the development process.
  • Contribute creative ideas while managing multiple projects and meeting key calendar deadlines.

Required Experience/Skills for the Associate Designer – Men’s/Boys’ Apparel:

  • 2+ years of professional design experience in men’s, boys’, or related apparel categories.
  • Experience supporting apparel collections from concept through production.
  • Strong sketching, CAD, and garment construction knowledge.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Creative mindset with a strong understanding of commercial product development.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Associate Designer – Men’s/Boys’ Apparel:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Experience working with PLM systems.
  • Knowledge of fabrications, trims, embellishments, and garment construction techniques.
  • Understanding of current trends and consumer preferences within men’s and boys’ apparel.
  • Experience participating in fit sessions and managing garment specifications.
  • Ability to present design concepts effectively to cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field is preferred.
  • Additional coursework or certifications related to apparel design, CAD software, or trend forecasting are a plus.
