Client Overview:

Our client is a premier, asset-based regional transportation and mega-trucking logistics provider operating out of a high-volume terminal. They are looking to add a Collections Specialist to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$18/hr – $22/hr

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly meticulous, results-oriented Collections Specialist to spearhead an intensive historical aging cleanup project. The ideal candidate should have strong, assertive verbal and written communication skills paired with a professional demeanor capable of resolving structural client disputes constructively.

Responsibilities of the Collections Specialist:

  • Review, dissect, and thoroughly investigate older, stale commercial accounts and lingering accounts receivable balances to trace open unpaid items.
  • Research root causes for payment delays, short-payments, or open historical adjustments by cross-referencing freight rates, accessorial fees, and fuel surcharges.
  • Execute persistent, professional, and strategic outbound collections outreach to past-due shippers, brokers, and logistics commercial clients to secure long-overdue payments.
  • Work closely with internal tracking mechanisms to track down, verify, and retrieve legacy paperwork required for claim finalization, including old Bills of Lading (BOLs), Proof of Deliveries (PODs), and disputed rate confirmations.
  • Research unapplied cash, misapplied credits, and historical billing discrepancies to return legacy corporate ledgers to clean, accurate standings.

Required Experience/Skills for the Collections Specialist:

  • Industry Focus: Solid foundational experience working within the trucking, logistics, third-party logistics (3PL), or freight transport sector. An absolute understanding of transportation documentation (BOLs, PODs, rate cons) is mandatory.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a natural inclination for “investigative” or forensic accounting work—a willingness to look past surface figures and dig into the paperwork.
  • Proven track record of navigating complex business-to-business corporate payment processes and achieving collection results on older, highly aged accounts.
  • Intermediate to advanced competency in Microsoft Excel (data sorting, basic filters, and sheet navigation) alongside standard enterprise accounting frameworks.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Collections Specialist:

  • Systems Software Bonus: First-hand operational experience using McLeod Software.
  • Project Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal guidance, rapidly sorting through account histories to self-direct cleanup workflows.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field is a plus.

Benefits:

  • Atrium Care Package available upon eligibility (including healthcare plans, discount programs, and paid time off).
