Our client is a leading apparel company specializing in fashion-forward dresses for the Juniors market. The company designs and markets trend-driven collections across Prom, Club, Social Occasion, and Day Dress categories. Their brands are recognized for delivering fashion, quality, and value to today’s style-conscious consumer, with a growing presence across specialty retailers, department stores, and e-commerce channels. They are currently seeking a Senior Fashion Designer to lead the creative vision and development of their Juniors dress collections.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$110K – $145K annually (flexible up to $175K depending on experience, with openness to a Director-level title)
Position Overview:
The Senior Fashion Designer will lead the creative vision and seasonal development of Juniors dress collections. This role requires identifying emerging fashion trends, developing original concepts, and overseeing the design process from initial sketch through production. The ideal Senior Fashion Designer will have extensive experience in occasion dressing, a deep understanding of the Juniors customer, and a proven track record designing successful fashion programs across Prom, Club, Social Occasion, and Day Dress categories. This position offers an opportunity to play a key leadership role within a rapidly growing and highly entrepreneurial fashion organization.
Responsibilities of the Senior Fashion Designer:
- Lead the design and development of seasonal Juniors dress collections.
- Create innovative and commercially viable designs across Prom, Club, Social Occasion, and Day Dress categories.
- Research and forecast fashion trends, silhouettes, fabrics, colors, trims, embellishments, and print direction.
- Develop seasonal mood boards, trend presentations, and color stories.
- Create detailed sketches, CADs, technical flats, and design packages.
- Collaborate closely with merchandising, sales, sourcing, and production teams to align design strategies with business objectives.
- Attend fittings and sample reviews to ensure fit, construction, and design integrity.
- Provide design direction for fabric development, embellishments, embroidery, beading, sequins, and novelty treatments.
- Work with overseas vendors and factories throughout the product development process.
- Analyze sales performance and customer feedback to identify growth opportunities and new product categories.
- Mentor and guide junior design staff as needed.
Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Fashion Designer:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
- 7+ years of fashion design experience, preferably within Juniors dresses, special occasion apparel, or contemporary fashion.
- Strong understanding of the Juniors customer and current fashion trends.
- Proven experience designing Prom, Club, Social Occasion, Eveningwear, or Fashion Dresses.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, patternmaking, and fabric development.
- Experience working directly with overseas factories and product development teams.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple seasons and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Fashion Designer:
- Experience with Prom and Homecoming collections.
- Knowledge of Club and nightlife fashion.
- Expertise in Social Occasion and event dressing.
- Familiarity with contemporary day dress categories.
- Skilled in fashion embellishment techniques including beading, sequins, embroidery, heat stones, novelty trims, and specialty fabrics.
- Experience working with stretch knits, satins, chiffons, mesh, lace, and woven fashion fabrics.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field required.
