Our client, a well-established education-focused nonprofit organization, is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Accountant to join their Finance team. Salary/Hourly Rate:
$33/hr – $37/hr (Temporary-to-Permanent Opportunity)
$70k – $80k Annually (Upon permanent conversion)
Position Overview:
As an Accounts Payable Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing daily accounts payable operations, ensuring timely and accurate invoice processing, vendor payments, reconciliations, and financial reporting support. The ideal Accounts Payable Accountant will have strong accounting fundamentals, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. This Accounts Payable Accountant position offers the opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization while building a long-term career within a growing finance team.
Responsibilities of the Accounts Payable Accountant:
- Process and review invoices for accuracy, coding, approvals, and payment.
- Manage full-cycle accounts payable functions in a high-volume environment.
- Prepare and process ACH, wire, and check payments.
- Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies.
- Maintain vendor records and ensure compliance with organizational policies.
- Assist with month-end close activities, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Monitor accounts payable aging and ensure timely payment processing.
- Support annual audits by providing required documentation and schedules.
- Collaborate with internal departments regarding purchasing and payment inquiries.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounts payable processes and efficiencies.
- Assist with special projects and additional accounting responsibilities as assigned.
Required Experience/Skills for the Accounts Payable Accountant:
- 4 – 10 years of accounts payable and accounting experience.
- Previous experience working as an Accounts Payable Accountant, Accounts Payable Specialist, or similar accounting role.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable procedures and general accounting principles.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and reporting functions.
- Experience working with accounting software and ERP systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Accounts Payable Accountant:
- Experience working within a nonprofit, education, foundation, or mission-driven organization.
- Knowledge of grant-funded environments and nonprofit accounting practices.
- Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Exposure to audit support and month-end financial reporting.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
