Client Overview:

Our client is a well-established nonprofit/not-for-profit organization seeking a Senior Accountant to join their collaborative Finance team. Reporting to an experienced Controller, this highly visible role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while supporting the organization’s mission in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$75k – $85k Annually

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to serve as a key member of the Finance team and a trusted partner to the Controller. This role will be instrumental in maintaining the organization’s financial integrity by owning the month-end and year-end close processes, financial reporting, audit support, and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically strong, adaptable, and thrives in a collaborative, fully remote environment.

Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:

  • Perform and review monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Assist with preparation of financial statements, reporting packages, and annual budgets.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual results and investigate variances.
  • Support annual external audits by preparing schedules and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Support accounting process improvements and system implementations.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.
  • Serve as backup for accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments on financial matters.
  • Assist with foundation accounting, affiliate/intercompany reconciliations, royalty accounting, sales & use tax, and VAT reporting where applicable.

Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant:

  • 5 – 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong full-cycle accounting experience, including month-end and year-end close.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and supporting external audits.
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP.
  • Sales & Use Tax experience.
  • Hands-on Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables and formulas.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics GP, or similar accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fully remote setting while collaborating across departments.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant:

  • Nonprofit accounting experience.
  • Foundation, fund, royalty, or affiliate accounting experience.
  • VAT experience.
  • CPA or CPA candidate.
  • Experience supporting organizations with annual budgets exceeding $15 million.
  • Experience participating in ERP implementations or system conversions.
  • Technology-savvy with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • CPA or CPA candidate is preferred but not required.
