Client Overview:

A fashion company specializing in women’s apparel is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Assistant Designer (Women’s Cut & Sew Knits/Wovens) to support its Women’s Design team. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment focused on trend-forward knit and woven apparel.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$25/hr – $28/hr

Position Overview:

The Assistant Designer (Women’s Cut & Sew Knits/Wovens) will support the Senior Designer with the development of women’s cut-and-sew knit and woven collections. This role will focus on creating detailed computer sketches, assisting with tech packs and design specifications, researching trends, and supporting the development of seasonal styles from concept through sample review.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Designer (Women’s Cut & Sew Knits/Wovens):

  • Assist with developing women’s woven and cut-and-sew knit collections and seasonal styles.
  • Research current fashion trends, colors, fabrics, silhouettes, and market direction.
  • Create design concepts, technical sketches, mood boards, and style presentations.
  • Assist with fabric, trim, lace, embellishment, and color selections.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate tech packs, line sheets, sketches, and design specifications.
  • Work with pattern makers, sample makers, and production teams to develop prototypes and samples.
  • Attend fittings and provide feedback on fit, proportion, construction, and overall appearance.
  • Review samples and communicate revisions to ensure designs align with the original concept.
  • Provide general design and administrative support to the Senior Designer.

Required Experience/Skills for the Assistant Designer (Women’s Cut & Sew Knits/Wovens):

  • 1–3 years of women’s fashion design or apparel development experience.
  • Strong understanding of women’s garment construction and fit.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.
  • Strong technical sketching and computer design skills.
  • Experience with tech packs, technical sketches, or garment specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Experience with Excel and PLM systems.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Assistant Designer (Women’s Cut & Sew Knits/Wovens):

  • Experience designing women’s cut-and-sew knits and woven apparel.
  • Knowledge of fabrics, trims, embellishments, sewing techniques, and garment finishing.
  • Adobe Photoshop experience.
  • Experience supporting fittings, sample reviews, and product development.
  • Strong fashion trend and market awareness.

Education Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, or a related field preferred.
