Salary/Hourly Rate:
$79k – $100k (depending on experience) Â
Position Overview:
The Safety Specialist (Manufacturing) will support the site’s Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives by providing guidance, training, compliance support, and leadership to promote a safe and productive manufacturing environment. This individual will partner with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to drive continuous improvement in safety performance, regulatory compliance, and employee engagement. Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety Specialist (Manufacturing) will play a key role in maintaining OSHA compliance, conducting training programs, supporting incident investigations, and ensuring successful execution of health, safety, and environmental programs. Â
Responsibilities of the Safety Specialist (Manufacturing):
- Support Environmental, Health & Safety direction, leadership, and training.
- Develop, implement, audit, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Assist with regulatory compliance efforts and serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies when required.
- Provide employee training on workplace safety, emergency response, hazard recognition, chemical handling, and safe work practices.
- Maintain OSHA compliance documentation and recordkeeping requirements.
- Coordinate and facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and EHS communications.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in incident, injury, and near-miss investigations and assist in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities.
- Track corrective actions and ensure timely closure of identified issues.
- Support environmental compliance programs and initiatives.
- Assist with Workers’ Compensation case management and related documentation.
- Support Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, including Employee Participation, Mechanical Integrity, Management of Change, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
- Conduct job hazard analyses and task assessments.
- Promote a strong safety culture through employee engagement and visible leadership.
- Provide occasional support during evenings or weekends as required.
Required Experience/Skills for the Safety Specialist (Manufacturing):
- Use of protective clothing and personal devices, including safety shoes, hard hat, safety glasses, earplugs, goggles, insulated gloves, safety vest, harness, hair net, slicker suit, and potentially respiratory protection, is required in the manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of health and safety experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the chemical or food industry.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and USEPA regulations and industrial safety compliance requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to train.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Safety Specialist (Manufacturing):
- Over 5 years of health and safety experience within chemical or food industry manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and USEPA regulations and industrial safety compliance requirements.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health, Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or relevant technical discipline or equivalent experience is required.
