Our client is a well-established financial services organization seeking a technically strong IT professional to support and maintain its enterprise infrastructure. The organization values hands-on expertise, independent problem-solving, and a proactive approach to maintaining reliable technology systems. They are currently looking to add a Senior Systems Engineer to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$150k to $180k, with flexibility up to $190k for an exceptional candidate, plus potential discretionary bonus.

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a hands-on Senior Systems Engineer to manage, maintain, and troubleshoot server infrastructure and related technology environments. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring system reliability, performance, and operational efficiency across physical and virtual server environments. The ideal Senior Systems Engineer will have strong VMware experience, practical knowledge of storage and networking, and the ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex technical issues. This is a highly hands-on position for someone who enjoys working directly with technology, taking ownership of infrastructure challenges, and contributing wherever needed. This role is on-site, 5 days a week for the first 3 months, with potential to transition to 4 days on-site afterward.

Responsibilities of the Senior Systems Engineer:

• Build, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical and virtual server environments.
• Administer VMware infrastructure, including building, configuring, and supporting virtual machines.
• Monitor server performance and manage routine maintenance and daily infrastructure operations.
• Manage and support storage systems and related infrastructure.
• Diagnose and resolve server, storage, and network connectivity issues.
• Support network infrastructure and assist with troubleshooting connectivity problems.
• Provide occasional help desk and end-user technical support as needed.
• Independently investigate and resolve complex infrastructure issues.
• Partner with IT leadership to maintain a reliable, secure, and efficient technology environment.
• Assist with infrastructure upgrades, improvements, migrations, and ongoing maintenance.
• Balance competing priorities while maintaining a hands-on approach to technical support and problem resolution.

Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Systems Engineer:

• Strong hands-on experience in server administration and IT infrastructure management.
• Practical VMware virtualization experience, including personally building and configuring virtual machines.
• Solid understanding of server storage systems and infrastructure operations.
• Working knowledge of networking, connectivity, and troubleshooting.
• Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
• Willingness to provide occasional end-user and help desk support.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Proactive mindset with the ability to take ownership and follow issues through to resolution.
• Ability to manage multiple technical responsibilities in a primarily onsite environment.
• Demonstrated technical proficiency; years of experience are flexible based on hands-on capabilities.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Systems Engineer:

• Financial services industry experience.
• Experience supporting business-critical infrastructure in a fast-paced environment.
• Exposure to infrastructure upgrades, optimization, and technology improvements.
• A resourceful, adaptable approach to resolving technical challenges and supporting broader IT operations.
