Client Overview:

Our client, a premium scent company known for its design-forward air fresheners, is looking to hire a Packaging Engineer. They focus on making their products from sustainably sourced materials using clean, high-quality fragrance oil. The business continues to scale rapidly, supported by a growing, distributed global team united by a shared passion for innovation, creativity, and elevating how consumers discover and enjoy fragrance.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$140k – $145k plus bonus 

Position Overview:

The Packaging Engineer will lead the design, testing, and implementation of innovative packaging solutions that support the organization’s product development and operational goals. This role supports the fragrance diffuser product line and requires experience with device-based packaging, including heat-activated and diffusion system technologies. The Packaging Engineer ensures packaging meets functional, quality, and regulatory standards while optimizing for cost and efficiency. The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to deliver scalable, high-performing packaging solutions. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Relocation assistance is available for this role. 

Responsibilities of the Packaging Engineer:

  • Oversee and manage the complete packaging development process, including design creation, prototype development, and performance testing.
  • Troubleshoot packaging issues related to design, materials, and processes, providing timely and cost-effective solutions.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and product specifications to determine packaging requirements and material needs.
  • Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation; select and review packaging vendors.
  • Utilize CAD and mechanical design tools to create packaging products and review preliminary production samples for improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Product Development, Project Management, Engineering, Operations) and global suppliers to ensure packaging meets objectives.
  • Conduct packaging experiments and plant/line trials to validate designs and performance.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure packaging exceeds customer specifications.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, and logistics.

Required Experience/Skills for the Packaging Engineer:

  • Experience with device-based packaging, including heat-activated and diffusion system technologies.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial or consumer packaging.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM) and drafting/specification standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and 3D modeling (SolidWorks preferred); experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
  • Experience designing and developing packaging from concept to implementation.
  • Familiarity with regulated environments (FDA) and hazardous goods (e.g., lithium batteries, fragrance solvents).

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Packaging Engineer:

  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite applications.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or a related field is required.
