Position Overview:
The Compounding Manager is responsible for leading daily compounding and blending operations. This is an on-site, first-shift leadership position, with flexibility required to work Saturdays based on business needs. The Compounding Manager will oversee a critical step in the manufacturing process where raw materials—such as powders, liquids, and active ingredients—are accurately weighed, measured, and combined according to precise formulas (batch records) to create a bulk product. This process can involve dissolving, mixing, heating, cooling, emulsifying, or homogenizing ingredients to achieve the desired consistency, stability, and performance in finished goods. The Compounding Manager directly supervises a team of compounders and ensures formulations are produced safely, accurately, and in full compliance with regulatory, quality, and safety standards.
Responsibilities of the Compounding Manager:
- Oversee day-to-day compounding operations, including workflow coordination, scheduling, and resource planning.
- Directly supervise and support a team of compounders, providing training, instruction, and performance guidance.
- Ensure all formulations are prepared accurately following detailed batch records, including precise weighing and sequencing of ingredients.
- Monitor all stages of the compounding process, including measuring, mixing, transferring, and labeling of raw materials to ensure accuracy and full traceability.
- Maintain precise documentation, including batch records, cleaning logs, inventory tracking, and quality documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, safety, and quality requirements (FDA, OSHA, and internal procedures).
- Enforce strict safety protocols when working with aerosols, flammable materials, and chemical ingredients.
- Partner cross-functionally with Quality, Production, and Supply Chain to ensure materials and schedules align with manufacturing priorities.
- Oversee proper handling, storage, and inventory control of raw materials across multiple production areas.
- Investigate process deviations, errors, or non-conformances and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure compounding equipment (e.g., mixers, transfer pumps, homogenizers) is clean, calibrated, and functioning properly.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, consistency, and waste reduction.
- Maintain a strong presence on the production floor and provide hands-on support as needed.
Required Experience/Skills for the Compounding Manager:
- Hands-on experience in compounding, blending, or mixing operations within a manufacturing environment.
- Prior supervisory or lead experience managing production or technical staff.
- Strong understanding of formulation processes, including precise weighing, ingredient sequencing, and batch accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple workflows while maintaining strict attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Experience working in regulated environments requiring adherence to SOPs, GMPs, and compliance standards.
- Comfort working with industrial processing and mixing equipment.
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills, with a focus on safety and quality.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Compounding Manager:
- Experience in OTC, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, or personal care manufacturing.
- Background in contract manufacturing or multi-site production environments.
- Familiarity with aerosol or flammable material processing.
- Continuous improvement mindset with experience optimizing processes or workflows.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Benefits:
- Client-provided benefits available, upon eligibility.
